scrapbooking woes...

scrapbooking

This is probably the most "journaling" I will be doing on this blog so bear with me. I wanted to just throw something "out there" that hopefully some of you my friends will understand...a subject that has given me a fair amount of stress for the past while. Let me start at the beginning. My husband's grandparents are more or less at the "jumping off place" in life and felt strongly that they wanted to have a family reunion. For this reunion, occurring this upcoming fourth of July weekend, the family decided to put a scrapbook together for them containing pages made by each family. This is the part where you are going to start judging me I just know it (j/k). Well since my entire closet of scrapbooking stuff is buried beneath two years of dust, I thought a good place to start would be to pick up one of the many scrapbooking magazines to get some ideas. Keep in mind this is only two 12x12 pages we're talking about here. As I flip through the many many cute creations, my mind starts racing, my pulse is getting faster, beads of sweat are rolling down my face, I'm finding it hard to breath...I'm having a full on anxiety attack! WHAT HAVE I DONE!!!!.....Not only have I not recorded in any way a whole bunch of Mya's milestones in life, but I've missed birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, graduations, first christmas's, cute things mya has done, Kimball's acceptance to school, first day of school, family trips, pregnancy milestones (both pregnancies), the move, our old house, Mya's first pony tail...OH MY GOSH, I'm the worst mom in the entire world....Looking at all of these wonderful and cute ideas, and I havent done one of them to record any of my memories. You are probably thinking calm down, I know, but it must have been the preggo hormones, cause I was beside myself. The only consolation I could take from all of this, is that I have pictures of most of these events, but how will I ever catch up, especially when I should be getting ready to record the event of a second child in our family that is coming in 5 weeks! How overwhelming. This is very frustrating to me, because it seems my creative self follows a pattern of high energy when I wanna go create right then and there, and then after a brief period of that it goes into hibernation for at least a year until I have one of these melt downs. So, here is my new resolve. I know myself better than to say I'll do a page a week..I won't. So at the beginning of each month, Kimball and I are gonna compare schedules, and sit down and figure out a day for a daddy daughter activity while I pull out my table and my truck load of stuff and sit down and try and get at least one thing finished. I'm gonna go through my pictures and make a list of pages I want to do, and hopefully check them off one by one. If any of you have this dilemma, you are more than welcome to come over and we'll get something done together. And for those of you who I see often, please try to encourage me to stay on track. Anyway, thats all for now, I think I'll go and stew over this for little longer.

San Antonio!

So we just got back from San Antonio a couple of nights ago, and we had a blast! It was very VERY hot, but we didnt let that stop us. Mya loved Sea World where everything was "NEMO!!". We also saw the Alamo, which was a good chance to learn more about our state's history as somber as it was. We went to the Riverwalk which was beautiful, but after an hour it was so hot that it turned into more of a River "Drive". Mya loved staying in a hotel, she got to sleep with mom and dad, go swimming a lot, and eat in bed. It was such a nice treat to be able to be together without any other preoccupations.... even if we were on the verge of melting the entire time.

Sweet Mya

Father's Day

This year Father's Day was very peaceful and pleasant. With Kimball done with all of his tests, he was beside himself with free time. He kept going over all the things he wants to get done around the house during his break...I swear he's not comfortable with himself unless he is under some sort of stress. Anyway, after church we all took a nap, then had some friends over for dinner, afterward Kimball opened his gifts (a new drill!!!) and we had ice cream sundaes. This Father's Day was different in that I really felt very thankful for how hard the dads in my life really work, not that I've never felt that way before, but just more so this time. I love you Kimball, my deepest gratitude belongs to you for everything you do to be the dad you are in our family.

Top Ten Reasons I Love Dad
by Mya Knackstedt

10. He pushes me on the swing really high
9. He watches SpongeBob SquarePants with me even when he's got better things to do.
8. He lets me ride on his shoulders instead of my stroller
7. He sings songs to me even when he doesn't know the words or the melody
6. He helps mom around the house so she isn't grumpy
5. When we go swimming he throws me high in the air (I actually don't like that, but he does)
4. He tries really hard to speak my language
3. He colors with me during church.
2. He doesn't mind if I only eat the ketchup and/or ranch off my dinner plate
1. He loves me and my mom very much

Snoop Dizzle a Mormon?

According to the Associated Press, Snoop Dogg was first introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as the Mormon Church is officially known, after attending a Gladys Knight concert in an LDS meeting house in Los Angeles.

Knight, who very publicly discusses her conversion to Mormonism several years ago, invited Snoop Dogg to what is known to the Mormon faithful as “Family Home Evening,” a church program that encourages families to set aside Monday evenings for gospel-centered lessons and family togetherness.

Though Snoop Dogg has been hesitant to publicly discuss his recent spiritual journey, he commented on the experience of attending his first “Family Home Evening” in a recent interview with People Magazine.

“I was hooked from the start,” Snoop Dogg said. “We talked about the purpose of life, played Mousetrap, and ate brownies. The kids thought it was off the hook, for real.”

In what Snoop Dogg now thinks was anything but a coincidence, Mormon missionaries had knocked on his door just one week before the Knight concert. He said he had initially turned them away because of what he knew about the strict Mormon health code, which prohibits members from smoking, drinking alcohol, and using drugs.

“Y’all know me,” he said grinning broadly. “There were just certain things the old me -- the "natural man" -- needed to do. And these young guys are telling me that God’s not down with disrespecting ourselves. But it’s cool now.”

Are you laughing as hard as I was?...For Schizzle!

Is It Over Yet??

Well for those of you who have had the unfortunate experience of being around me and/or Kimball these past couple of weeks, I am pleased to report the cranky dispositions are about to go away! Kimball took the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Exam) on Saturday and will take the COMLEX in a couple of days. FYI the USMLE is the score he will use to apply for the M.D. residencies and the COMLEX is the score he will use to apply for D.O. residencies. He feels good about the test he took on Saturday, the only complaint was that they started two hours late! Those of you who know will sympathize about the two hour addition to a test that is seven hours long to begin with and how any added stress can affect someone's performance on a test. He didn't seem as concerned as me, and through it all was satisfied with how he did. I think he was just glad that the hard part was over with. To celebrate I worked really hard to get the house nice and clean for when he came home, next we took Mya swimming at the aquatics center where it was fun for him to get to play with her after being away all day. After that we went and got a snow cone (Kimball's all time favorite treat), then he said he was craving barbeque so we went out, afterwards we rented a movie and took a deep breath and slept well. The tension has already been cut down by 75% which I am very happy for, all he has to do now is basically the same thing again, but it ought to be much easier now that he knows what to expect. Through it all I didn't take any pictures so the ones posted are some that I had that I thought were relative (Miss Mya is quite a bit bigger these days, and is now jumping off the diving board by herself). Thanks to everyone that has been so supportive to our family, and me in particular, as we have gone through this stressful time.

Our New Cousin Jack!

So this is a little belated since I was an idiot and didn't bring my camera to the hospital when the newest member of our family arrived, but i was able to "steal" some cute pictures of Mya's new cousin Jack Cameron from the site where he got some new baby portraits. Isn't he cute!? We can't wait to see him in a couple of days!
